“Mud Mash” at Laguna Lake Promises Fun and Challenge to Racers and Teams

San Luis Obispo, CA— San Luis Obispo’s All Out Events brings the Mud Mash out for the third time on October 27 & 28 at the beautiful Laguna Lake park in the heart of San Luis Obispo’s mountainous valley.

“Mud Mash was conceived to appeal to hardcore sports enthusiasts and novice adventures alike. No yelling and torture here, you make it as hard as you like,” said Kristin Horowitz, founder of All Out Events, along with her husband, Yishai.

The race will take place this year over two days, with participants able to enter one or both days. “We hit capacity at the park last year when we tripled our participation, so this year we opened it up to two fun days,” said Yishai. “That way, you can run it twice, pick a day that’s most convenient, or run with a team one day and solo the next.”

Once you register for one day, you’ll receive a notice in your confirmation for instructions on how to get 25% off your second day’s registration.

The course spans a 5k course, wading through the lake, over various obstacles along the flat terrain, through reeds, and up over a rugged mountain trail. 10k participants will do two laps. The location was chosen because of the stunning natural terrain – minimal alteration to the park will occur. Solo participants must be 13 years or older, or parents must run with children younger. Proceeds go to benefit SLO County Special Olympics.

“We get a lot of calls from people who’ve always wanted to do something like this but are worried it’s too much,” says Kristin. “The reality is, what we’re trying to do here is take you back to the days when you were a child, playing in creeks and mud and not worried about getting dirty or what other people might think. It’s a race as suitable for a top triathlete as it is a retiree, so long as you’re willing to get dirty and have fun with it.”

Speaking of fun, participants are encouraged to come in costume – and a peer-judged costume contest will be held each day before the race.

This year, along with two days, the event will also feature an “industry competition” along with its regular categories of solo and teams up to ten. “We noticed last year that many local organizations got involved and liked seeing where they came out ahead of their competition, so we decided to formalize it. We hope to see fitness studios, banks, bike shops, coffee shops, you name it, out here competing against eachother,” encouraged Yishai. Moreover, profits from the competition will go to SLO Bike Coalition’s Connect SLO County initiative, and hopefully raise enough funds to create more Bob Jones Bike trails all over the county. “It’s a great way to get local organizations to have fun and give back directly to the health and beauty of the community,” says Kristin Horowitz, co-owner of All Out Events.

Obstacles will include a “swamp stomp,” “reed maze,” hay bale hurdles, 12′ and 6′ walls, and, of course, a big muddy pit at the end!

All Out Events is committed to producing environmentally responsible events. “Protecting the land is something we take very seriously,”

Yishai said. “Our motto is ‘zero waste, and leave no trace.’”

The 5k Mud Mash registration fee is $50 for participants (going up in September and day of), who will be released in half- hour waves starting at 9 a.m. The 10k registration fee is $60.

Spectators are also encouraged to come and cheer on the racers, and attending will include access to some of the on-course obstacles as well as live music and vendors selling barbecue, beer and more. Visit www.MudMash.com for information and registration. Onsite parking will cost $10 and free parking with shuttles will be offsite.
